Skydiver's iPhone 4 survives a 13,500 foot fall from his pocket

Apple has always bragged about the iPhone 4's durability, but some people have doubted that when it broke as a result of being dropped from 3 feet in the air (Apple was sued for this). But now we have another side of the story; skydiver Jarrod McKinney's iPhone 4 survived a 13,500 foot fall when he accidentally left his iPhone 4 in his pocket while skydiving. "I just knew it was gone," said McKinney. "Falling from that height? What are the chances of you finding something like that or even knowing where to look?" Amazingly, however, he found the location of his iPhone (on the roof of a building half a mile away) using a GPS tracking app.

The iPhone's front and back glass was shattered, yet somehow when McKinney's skydiving instructor called it as a joke, the call actually went through. Now we just have to call him up and ask him to leave a Droid in his pocket next time for comparison...

White iPhone 4, new iMac debut!

Tech n' Cars apologizes for the 15-day break in posting. Today the break has ended! Apple has released two big products since the last time I posted:

First, the white iPhone 4. It's the same as the black iPhone 4, except for its color and its thickness. That's right; it's 0.2mm thicker.

Second, the new iMac. This new iMac has Thunderbolt, a quad-core processor in every model, and a new Radeon HD graphics processor, with 3x better graphics performance.

White iPhone 4 slightly thicker than black iPhone 4!

Finally! The white iPhone 4 has officially became avaliable to the public. A very interesting note is that the white iPhone 4 is 0.2mm thicker than the black iPhone 4. Here's the slight difference:

An anonymous person said the difference was enough that it didn't fit into his Incase slider case. Also, Ryan Cash discovered this by holding both iPhones, one in each hand. We'll have to see why the white iPhone 4 is thicker than the black one!

T-Mobile iPhone found in testing!

BGR recently found and photographed a white iPhone 4 that was using T-Mobile's 3G network! The locked screen said "Confidential and propietary." T-Mobile's CEO has said before that he would love to have a T-Mobile iPhone, but the only problem is that T-Mobile uses different frequencies. An interesting note is that the internal number is N94. The internal number for the AT&T iPhone is N90, and the internal number for the Verizon iPhone is N92. Notice a pattern? And also notice that I just might have called Sprint's strategy of letting the other carriers carry iPhones and then having a faster network and that there will be a T-Mobile iPhone in this post!

Three, a UK carrier, lists the white iPhone 4 as avaliable on April 20

Three, a UK wireless carrier, now shows the white iPhone 4 as avliable for purchase on its website! The earliest delivery date is April 20th. Does that mean the white iPhone will be released tomorrow, Wednesday? It certainly could! When asked about this topic, Three represtatives said that the deal isn't live yet, and they no nothing else about the white iPhone 4.

White iPhone 4 to debut April 26

iPhoneItalia has claimed that on April 26, the white iPhone 4 will be released! Here is a translation of part of the Italian blog's post:

"Thanks to information we received from a reliable source, we can reveal the possible date on which the long awaited white iPhone 4 will arrive in Italy and fill the first stores. The launch might take place in ten days, April 26, 2011."

White iPhone 4 shows up in Verizon's database

Now we have two proofs that the white iPhone is coming; and really soon. First off, Phil Schiller tweeted that the white iPhone 4 would be coming this spring. He included that it is a beauty. And now, a white iPhone 4 has appeared in Verizon's inventory. How can we tell from this screenshot? Well, the white iPhone 4 is MC679 and the black model is MC678. The same pattern goes for the black iPad 2 and the white iPad 2! As for the exact release date, it is believed to be the end of April.

The white iPhone 4 will be avaliable in the spring!

Apple executive Phil Schiller tweeted that a white iPhone will be avaliable in the spring (finally!). Apple first announced a white iPhone in June 2010 along with the black iPhone 4, but had only too many delays. Apple said that the white paint leaked through the phone and affected the rear camera, and the many delays were to fix this problem. Some may say there will be yet another delay, but I don't think so. After all, the white iPad 2 has a rear camera and it worked out fine...

Google makes a TV app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad!

In December, Google made a Google TV remote app for Android. Now, Google has finally made one for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad! It has all the features found on Android including Voice Search except that it won't let you share web pages from your iOS device to your TV. If you've got a Google TV and iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, I recommend grabbing the free app from the App Store.

Apple to Release an "iPhone Nano" With Almost no Memory, Unable to Download Apps

Cult of Mac claims that Apple will make a smaller iPhone or an "iPhone Nano" that will cost only $200 without a contract. It will be smaller than an iPhone 4, but it will have almost no onboard memory. The phone will rely on cloud-based delivery. This will cost a lot less to make, as about 25% of the money used to create the iPhone 4 is for the memory. There obviously will be disadvantages. The phone will have no memory to store music, videos, or pictures. It will only have a tiny amount of memory, just enough to buffer media streamed from the cloud. According to many rumors, Apple will make a new MobileMe service, and use that for all media buffering. Apple cut the cost of the Apple TV in a very similar way. It is also possible that you will not be able to download apps on this device because that demands a good amount of memory. The Wall Street Journal says that the phone might offer voice navigation.

If you'd like my opinion on this, I think this is a very silly idea. First off, you would have to use an insane amount of data to listen to all your music and videos by buffering. The data plans for this phone would be ridiculously high, which cancels out the fact that the phone costs less. Second, you wouldn't be able to download apps! One of the main reasons why the iPhone sells so well is because it has by far the biggest app selection; over 250,000 apps! The platform with the second biggest operating system is Android, with only 100,000. So if you don't let this phone download apps, getting a cheap actual smartphone like the Samsung Intercept or the Palm Pre would be a far better choice.

Existing Customers can now Pre-Order the Verizon iPhone!

Now that the Verizon iPhone is 8 days away from going on sale, Verizon is letting existing customers pre-order it. Apple's website is also accepting preorders. It is also confirmed that Verizon will let you use the iPhone 4 as a mobile hotspot. Here are Verizon's plans:

Apple is getting sued over their (un)breakable iPhone 4!

Ahh! You think after reading the passage on the left created by apple. 20 times siffer and 30 times harder than plastic! The alumiesuiwhatsitsname glass is even used in helicopters and high-speed trains! However, it turns out that the iPhone 4 is actually more prone to breakage than other smartphones, because there is glass on the front and back of the phone. And now Apple is facing a class action lawsuit for this. Here's what Mac Rumors says about the topic:

Apparently fed up and pissed off, California resident Donald LeBuhn filed a class action lawsuit earlier this week in L.A. County against Apple, claiming the company knows about the design flaw and refuses to warn consumers that "normal" use leads essentially to a broken phone.

According to his lawsuit, first reported by Courthouse News Service, LeBuhn threw down $252 in September for a new iPhone 4, but three weeks later the glass broke when his daughter accidentally dropped it approximately three feet to the ground while sending a text message.

He previously owned a 3GS version of the iPhone and claims the glass did not break when accidentally dropped from similar heights.

So, Apple, before you get into this fancy dual-core stuff with the iPhone 5 (see post "Updated iPad 2 and iPhone 5 Rumors!"), maybe you'll think about taking the glass of the back!
