Theo Gray Out-Geeks Everybody With a Periodic Table Table

Hundreds of millions of people around the globe are interested in science. Millions still let science take over many parts of their life because they have such a strong interest. But only one person dines at a periodic table table with samples of each element inside. That one person is Theo Gray, co-founder of Wolfram Research.

Theo Gray dines at a periodic table table dedicated to all 118 elements. Inside his table are compartments that hold a sample of their respective element. You'll find a jar of mercury, uranium shells, and a silicon disc with an engraving of Homer Simpson (No, I'm serious!) Obviously some samples aren't too easy to find, like gases. And he doesn't have radioactive elements for, well, obvious reasons. Nevertheless, this guy certainly out-geeks every other geek in the world. Well, I guess he did co-found Wolfram Research...

Seriously? Speeding Neutrinos Were Caused by a Loose Wire

Now Einstein really has the right to laugh...
Last September, neutrinos reportedly traveled from Switzerland to Italy faster than light would. This meant that either there was an error in the expirement, or that Einstein's theories were incorrect. Because it seemed so unlikely that Einstein would be wrong, scientists assumed that there was an error in the testing. But when CERN repeated the experiment 20 times and got the same results, that almost crossed off the idea of testing error, so it seemed as if Einstein's theories were false. Yet, scientists all over the world couldn't find any error in the theories. Even CERN's director of research, Sergio Bertolucci, jokingly said, "I have difficulty to believe it, because nothing arrives in Italy ahead of time."

But now, our explanation is finally here; a loose fiber optic cable in the system caused one of the atomic clocks to produce incorrect readings of the neutrino's time. However, we shouldn't jump to conclusions as many people did when the reports first came out; this report hasn't been confirmed, only one source, ScienceInsider, has mentioned it. Apparently, CERN's researchers will retest with properly hooked clocks, and this should tell for sure whether the results were in fact due to a loose wire. Talk about overthinking it...

Why Your Thanksgiving Dinner Makes You so Sleepy

Every Thanksgiving, we gobble down as much turkey, gravy, stuffing, and pumpkin pie as we can fit in our stomachs. Then, we settle on the couch to watch Thanksgiving football, and we get sleepy. I mean really sleepy. Have you ever wondered why you get so sleepy? Some people say it's because turkey contains tryptophan, but that's simply a myth. Here's the real reason you get so sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner. It's a little confusing, but bear with me!

Step 1: When you eat all that turkey, a lot of glucose gets into your bloodstream. So, your body produces insulin to absorb the glucose. Note: Diabetes is when your body can't produce enough insulin to absorb all the glucose in your bloodstream.

Step 2: The insulin also affects the uptake of every amino acid in your body, except for tryptophan. So, the concentration of tryptophan in your blood increases.

Step 3: When all the tryptophan in your blood gets to your brain, it is converted into serotonin and melatonin, both of which cause sleepiness. Voila!
