Thousands of Infected Computers Will Lose Internet Monday

If your computer is infected, the DNS changer check-up site will look like this

280,000 computers are infected with malware that will cause their internet to shut down on Monday, July 9, 2012 if they don't remove the virus immediately. This is becoming a huge deal all over the internet, with sites like Facebook and Google posting warning messages to users who they detect have the virus. How did this all start?

Last year, international hackers set up an online advertising scam. When these ads were clicked on, the hackers would gain control of these computers by hooking them up wirelessly to malicious servers. The servers turned off anti-virus protection and other installed software on the infected computers, slowing down their internet and making them prone to even worse viruses. Luckily, the FBI found out about this, and set off to take down the hackers.

However, they realized that there was an important problem; if the FBI simply turned off the malicious servers, about 400,000 infected computers would lose internet connection. So, the FBI hired a private company to set up two clean temporary internet servers to replace these malicious servers.

But these servers will expire on July 9 at 12:01 a.m. So the 280,000 computers that were infected and are still connected to these servers will instantly lose internet connection. And this is a bigger deal than it may seem; it is estimated that 50 Fortune 500 computers are infected with this virus, and therefore will lose internet connection.

The FBI recommends that everybody check to see if their computer is infected with this virus by going on http://www.dns-ok.us/, which will detect if your computer is infected with this virus. If it is, DCWG (The FBI's site on this problem) has links to fix your computer so you won't lose connection.

Jailbreak Lets You Get Siri on Any iDevice - Legally!

Siri on an iPad
Many people are disappointed that Siri only runs on the iPhone 4S. It's another one of Apple's nasty tricks; just like how they won't let you upgrade devices to the current iOS build if they're too old. Sure, the iPad 3 and the next iPod Touch will both come with Siri, but some of us don't have the patience to wait, or the money to buy a shiny new iDevice. Or both. So don't worry folks; just as you can jailbreak an old iDevice to get the latest iOS build, you can jailbreak any iDevice running iOS 5 to get Siri.

Grant Paul, Steven Troughton-Smith, and Ryan Petich, three well-known iOS hackers, are proud to announce that their new jailbreak, Spire, lets you get Siri on any iDevice running iOS 5. You may know of other jailbreaks that came out prior to this one that could do the same thing. But, the reason why this one is so special is that it is legal. If you're jealous of Siri, all you have to do is go on Cydia now, download the installer, and after you put it on your iDevice you'll just have to download Siri from Apple and then set up a proxy.

Anrdoid 4.0 Running on Kindle Fire: Video

Most of the people reading this post right now are probably very familiar with this situation; you ask for something for Christmas, but the person who gets it for you isn't as technology-oriented as you, and they end up buying the wrong thing. This problem has never been more apparent this Christmas, because a lot of people who asked for an Android tablet received a Kindle Fire. And while a Kindle Fire technically does run Android, it's so modified that you can't even tell it's Android, except when you see the selection of apps.

Well, other people noticed this problem as well; hackers. And now, they have figured out a solution to the problem; put Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on your Kindle Fire! Hackers have indeed figured out how to do this, and they even posted a video below:

As you might be able to guess, the Kindle Fire and the Ice Cream Sandwich don't go perfectly together, just as putting an ice cream sandwich over a fire would make it melt. There's a lot of bugs that could ruin your Kindle Fire, and they haven't figured out a way to let the Kindle do audio and video playback. Nevertheless, if the situation I described is exactly what happened to you, I would wait around until the hack is improved, and then you'll have your wish.
